This grizzly sow, affectionately known as "Quad Mom" for the litter of four cubs she emerged from hibernation with one year, has a set of twin cubs of the year. She will guide them towards the road (consequently towards people), because she has learned that this is the safest place for her very small cubs. Female bears will bring their cubs out from the back country when they are most vulnerable and into more human frequented areas. While the sow knows these places are safer, the male boars would rather go no where near these areas. The boars are the biggest threats to her cubs - they will occasionally attempt to kill the cubs, which would bring mother into estrus so that he can mate with her.
